If the LED is marked 500 mA, this is the maximum current for which it is designed. In fact, you need to take a driver with slightly lower parameters, with a current in the range from 300 to 350 mA.

LED drivers may differ:
- non-isolated or with galvanic isolation;
- by circuit design (single- and double- stage);
- by stabilization (current or voltage);
- with active or passive power corrector;
- by IP protection rating (sealed or non-sealed).
The main rule when choosing an LED driver or LED power supply is to have a reserve of 15-20 percent of its rated power when using it in a lamp.
